Fondation LAccolade Presents:

THE ELEMENTAL

 2024 Artist-in-Residence

SARA FAVRIAU

Sara Favriau, born in 1983 and based in Paris, is a daring artist who questions both artwork and its ecosystem, emphasizing circularity. Her artistic practice involves a dialogue between various forms, symbols, and processes drawn from popular culture, including sculptures, installations, and performances. Through elements such as huts, pirogues, bows, trees, and voguing, she creates a vocabulary that carries its own dramaturgy and poetic enactment. Favriau's work reflects an encounter between past, present, and future, intertwining metamorphosis, fiction, and essay. She humorously approaches this virtuous mixture, proposing a poetic form that challenges traditional artistic boundaries.

A graduate of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Paris, Favriau has won the 2015 "Prix des Amis du Palais de Tokyo" and participated in significant exhibitions and residencies worldwide. Notable projects include a tree-pirogue crossing the Mediterranean Sea in 2021 and a residency in AlUla, Saudi Arabia, in 2021/2022. Favriau's work is included in numerous public collections, including FMAC, FDAC Essonne, FRAC Normandie Caen, & MAC VAL. Favriau is represented by Galerie Maubert, Paris.

During this month long collaboration facilitated by Fondation LAccolade, Favriau will share insights into her residency experience and the thematic essence of our current exhibition "Palm Trees Also Die" that will resurface in its second iteration with an opening reception held at THE ELEMENTAL on March 2nd. Her residency aims to enrich the exhibition narrative with a fresh perspective inspired by the cultural and ecological significance of palm trees.
